Charles L. Wilkerson Sr.

June 30, 1948 - October 25, 2021

Charles L. Wilkerson Sr., 73, passed away on October 25, 2021, at his home. He was the husband of Susan Jennings Wilkerson for 52 years.

Born in Lynchburg, VA on June 30, 1948, he was the son Dorothy M. and H. L. “Frog” Wilkerson. He was a lifelong member of Red Oak Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Usher. Charlie worked for the Appomattox County School system as a Driver’s Education teacher and assistant football coach. In 2015, he was inducted into the Appomattox Sports Hall of Fame. Upon retirement, he opened Wilkerson’s Driving School. He enjoyed hunting and farming.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles Lester, Jr. and his wife, Amy of Christiansburg, Newton Matthew and his wife, Tiffany of Appomattox, and Jeffrey Seth and his wife, Melissa of Buckingham; his grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Chris, Abby, Ty, Jessi, and Kendall; and his brother Dennis Wilkerson and his wife, Sherry.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday October 27, 2021, at Red Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
