Freda Crosswhite Fry
Freda Crosswhite Fry, 78, beloved wife, mother, Grammy, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend passed away in her home surrounded by her family on November 3, 2021.
Freda was the seventh of eight children born to Ethel Mullins Crosswhite and Lee Gordon Crosswhite of Salem, VA.
Freda made her career as a teacher and a singer. For over 40 years she taught French and Spanish in classrooms at Glenvar High School, Andrew Lewis High School, Northside Junior High and High Schools, and Roanoke College. She ultimately recorded and released eight solo albums between 2009 and 2019. And she wrote and narrated a precious children’s book about bringing home the family’s puppy dog. She was a wonderful wife and mother, but her most cherished role in life was as a Grammy to two perfect granddaughters.
She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Bob Fry, her daughter Leigh Anna, her son Ben (Whitney), those perfect granddaughters Sydney and Taylor, her sister Joy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will have a drive-through visitation on Sunday November 7, 2021 from 1pm to 3pm at John M. Oakey & Son 305 Roanoke Boulevard Salem, VA 24153.
