Ronald Stanley Crisco, Sr.

June 20, 1950 - November 17, 2021

Ronald Stanley Crisco (Ronnie, Ron, Dad, Pap Pap, Pappy), 71, of Elliston, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born Tuesday, June 20, 1950, with twin brother, Randy, in Norfolk Va., to the late Wayne and Betty Crisco, Ronnie is also preceded in death by his sister, Donna Cox; brother, Donald Crisco; and nephews, Adam and Aaron Riffe.

Ronnie worked at Mohawk/Yokohama Tire for 36 years before retiring and traveling the United States. He has been to 49 of 50 states, camping all the way. Ronnie and Carolyn camp hosted at many state and national parks, where they met many people that they now consider their friends. Shenandoah National Park was one of his favorite campgrounds, having camped there every year for the last 20+ years. Ronnie has passed his love of camping down to his kids and grandkids. Football was his game and Ronnie was a proud Redskins fan, whether they were winning or losing. Ronnie and Carolyn have been on multiple cruises, where he got to see the world and eat like a pig. He was known to watch what he ate in the weeks leading up to their departure so that he could eat well, without guilt, on the ship. Ronnie and Carolyn wintered in Florida for 15 years, until this last January, when his health started to decline. He had a stem cell transplant in July with hopes of curing his rare blood disease. Sadly, on October 13th, he was told that the stem cell transplant had failed. He valiantly received one more round of chemo which ultimately failed also. He was brought home from the University of Virginia Medical Center on November 12th and cared for by his wife, daughter, Wendy, and Good Samaritan Hospice.

Those left to treasure Ronnie’s memory are his loving and devoted wife of 53 years (give or take), Carolyn Lawson Crisco; son, Ronnie Crisco, Jr. and fiancée, Tammy; daughter, Wendy and husband, Jeff; grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Jeremy (Kendall) and Devyn Crisco and Levi and Allison Bower; sisters, Sharon Farley, Beverly (Tom) Riffe; twin brother, Randy (Jeannie) Crisco; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved dog, Agnes Louise.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 20, 2021, beginning at 11:00 a.m., in the sanctuary of Abundant Life Church, formerly Salem Wesleyan Church. A memorial service to celebrate Ronnie’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor J.R. Shelor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA, the Lymphoma/Leukemia Society, Friends of Claytor Lake, or to your favorite national park. The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the physicians and staff of the University of Virginia Medical Center for the love and compassionate care provided to Ronnie and their family during this difficult process.
