Douglas Ray Overstreet

June 20, 1936 - October 24, 2021

Douglas Ray Overstreet, of Midlothian and formerly of Bedford, born June 20, 1936 and passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 surrounded by his family. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton Lee, Jr., and Elizabeth Overstreet Overstreet and his first wife, Frances Lovelace Overstreet.

He is survived by his present wife, Barbara Ring Overstreet; his sons, Douglas Ray Overstreet, Jr. (Susan), Lee Mills Overstreet (Andrea) and Benjamin Thomas Overstreet (Christine); seven grandchildren, Cameron, Carter, Kaitlyn, Emily, Zachary, Dylan and Tyler and his beloved dog, Cooper.

Ray was born and raised on a farm in Bedford County. After graduating from Bedford County High School, he served in the United State Air Force from 1956 - 1960. Following his service, he attended Virginia Tech where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1964. After graduation he worked for Union Carbide in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1973, he moved to Richmond where he worked as an engineer at Phillip Morris and retired in 1983. Following his retirement, he and Fran moved to Bedford and lived in the house Fran grew up in on Dogwood Lane. Fran passed away in 1999. Ray married Barbara Ring in 2004 and twelve years later they moved to Richmond.

Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a friend to many. Ray enjoyed working in the yard, working out at the Bedford YMCA and ACAC, and was an accomplished woodworker and collector of Mettlach beer steins. He loved Virginia Tech athletics and had seasonal football tickets for many years. Most of all, they enjoyed visiting, spending quality time with friends and family. Ray found much happiness and joy in his Goldendoodle, Cooper.

Services will be private with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
