Larma Underwood Harmon

October 16, 1928 - December 3, 2021

Larma Underwood Harmon, 93, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Friday, December 3rd, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in the Red Oak Community of Floyd County, VA on October 16th, 1928 to the late Claude & Sallie Underwood. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Ollie Thomas, Ruby Agnew, Zella Compton, Ava Wells, Gilbert Underwood and Tom Underwood.

Larma was the last surviving member of her family.

She moved to Martinsville, VA to find work in the late 40’s and did so, at the E.I. Dupont plant where she worked for 14 years. After moving to Martinsville, she fell in love with the man with whom she would share her life, James E. Harmon who passed away in 2006 after 58 years of marriage. Together they worked to make a living and begin a family. For 34 years she and James established and ran Harmon’s Cabins at Salt House Branch on Philpott Lake.

Larma was present, the oldest charter member of Landmark Baptist Church, Collinsville, VA. There she served faithfully until her health would no longer allow.

She was known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a great grandmother. Her kindness was expressed to all who knew her.

She is survived by her children; Peggy Harmon Stanley (David), Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon (Susan). Larma was blessed with 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 5th, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 6th, 2021, 11:00 AM at Landmark Baptist Church, Collinsville, VA with the Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
