Helen W. Stone

Helen W. Stone, 92, of Martinsville, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at her home. She was born November 9, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, to the late James R. Watkins and Viola Carter Watkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Stone Sr.; step-son, Nathaniel C. Stone; sister, Dorothy W. Hairston; and two brothers, James B. Watkins and James W. Watkins.

Helen enjoyed spending time doing yard work, working in the flowers, carpentry work, and cooking. She loved spending time with family and friends. Some of her favorite memories were working with her husband at his café and Stone’s Auditorium.

Helen is survived by her son, Nachor S. Stone (Tia); two step-sons, James A. Stone Jr. and John Gregory Stone; two step-daughters, Stephanie Spencer (Ron), and Cynthia Stone; step-brother, Sampson Hairston; special nephew and caregiver, Price D. Waller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A private funeral service will be held on, Saturday, January 22, 2022, with Minister Ricky Simon officiating. A private burial will follow at Stone -Martin Family Cemetery. A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 12:00 – 5:00 PM, with family being present from 4 – 5 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
