W. D. "Danny" Hackett
A legacy is not leaving something behind for your loved ones..it’s leaving part of you behind within those you love.
In loving memory of Warren Daniel Hackett, of Appomattox, who passed from this life on January 15, 2022. Danny was born December 10, 1948, to Hampton Hackett, Jr. and Dorothy Bryant Hackett and lived the majority of his 73 years in Buckingham, Virginia. He courted Glenda Dale Paulette through the drive-through at the Dairy Queen in a red 1967 Fairlane that is still part of the family. Married to Glenda for 48 years, they built a successful business, W. D. Hackett Logging, and a loving family that began with son, Warren David (Davy) and daughter, Wendy Danielle. Their family grew with the addition of daughter-in-law, Jennifer Scruggs Hackett and son-in-law, Brian Wilkerson. Danny’s greatest joy came with the addition of his five grandchildren. Kaleigh Haven, Kelsey Paige and Warren Dylan Hackett, Donovan Tate and Danielle Elise Wilkerson are blessed to carry the love and legacy of their beloved Papa.
Danny is survived by a sister, Carolyn H. Reaves; two brothers, Bruce Hackett and Rickey Hackett and wife, Brenda; two sisters-in-law, Linda T. Hackett, and Doris G. Hackett; a brother-in-law, Philip “Gus” Paulette and wife, Pam; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Bobby Reaves, sister-in-law Elizabeth H. Hackett, two brothers, Charles Hackett, and Buddy Hackett; and sister-in-law, Bonnie F. Paulette.
Those who knew and loved Danny remember him for his unassuming nature, genuine kindness, the strength of his character and his tireless work ethic. He wanted no attention on himself and instead focused on acting out his faith and love through hard work, giving of his time and making time to be present for the things important to those he loved. He found contentment in a hard day’s work but his only pride was for the successes and character of those he loved.
Danny was saved as a teen and lived a life of quiet faith and devotion to God and family. He was a member of New Life Church in Farmville. His salvation and quiet witness brings us an eternal hope. Though Danny will be missed greatly, we find joy in fond memories of decades spent on countless ball fields, summers driving dozens of baseball players to and from practice on the back of a truck, of working and hunting alongside him, at vintage car or gun shows, searching pawn shops and Goodwill for a good deal and sharing chocolate ice cream while fussing at him for eating it. Until we meet again, Woodchuck, keep watch over your beloved Bucks on the Run hunt club.
Danny embodied 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love Never Fails. This is his legacy.
A celebration of Danny’s life and legacy will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Robinson Funeral Home with Reverend Garry Bryant, Reverend Rickey Hackett, and Philip Paulette officiating. Burial will follow at the W.D. Hackett Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Davy and Jennifer Hackett, 231 Country Oaks Lane. An online condolence may be sent by visiting robinsonfuneral.com.
