Barbara Jean Maxey

January 14, 1950 - February 1, 2022

Barbara J. Maxey, 72, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2022 surround in love by family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. Linton Sr. and Lucy Blankenship Duncan, two sisters and an infant brother.  She is survived by her son Edward Wilton Maxey Jr. (Tricia) their children Larna Maxey Gieseking (Paul), Lauren Goins, Jessica Goins, and their grandchildren Rose Marie Gieseking (soon to arrive), Eli, Levi, and Ryleigh Goins; her brother, Frank Linton, Jr.; and her sister, Linda Carter (Gene).
Left to cherish her memory are a host of extended family and friends, Francis Hale (David), Barbara Blankenship, Frances Yopp Maxey Dillon, Timothy Maxey, Darlene Maxey Griffin, Tony, Ray and Chris Fisher. 
During middle childhood, she displayed superb swimming skills.  In adolescent she greatly enjoyed water skiing at Smith Mountain Lake.  She most often accompanied her husband on his many fishing and trapping expeditions.
Mrs. Maxey is a direct descendent of one of western Roanoke County, VA pioneer families- the Goff’s, two documented American Revolution Patriots, a militiamen who served at the command of President George Washington during the Frontier Wars' Whiskey Rebellion, a pensioner veteran of the War of 1812, a pensioner of the Mexican War and two Civil War veterans and she is the great-granddaughter of John H. Linton, 7th Maryland Co. E (Union) and the great-great granddaughter of Jacob Bishop, 28th Virginia Infantry Co. K (Confederate).  Selected members of the Joshua L. Chapman Camp #20 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will serve as honorary pall bearers.
Visitation will be held at Salem's Lotz Funeral Home and Chapel Friday February 4, 2022 from 2:00pm - 6:00pm.  Funeral and Committal services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by the Reverend Brian Geiser and will be private.
