Trudy Simpkins Merriman

Trudy Simpkins Merriman, May 29, 1937-February 9, 2022, of Collinsville went to her heavenly home after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Donald Merriman and her son, William Earl (Billy) Merriman. She was also preceded by her parents, James Ohlsen Simpkins and Maggie H. Simpkins.
Surviving is her son James Donald (Jimmy) Merriman II, grandson William Taylor Merriman, and granddaughter Katelyn Elizabeth Merriman. Trudy is also survived by her sister, Joan Jett (Dan); and brother, James Ohlsen Simpkins, Jr. (Sandra) as well as Joel Martin (Norma), who she considered a son.
Trudy was a beloved elementary school teacher who taught in the Henry County School System for many years (as well as N.C. School System). She had a lasting impact on many of her students and she touched the lives of all that knew her. She also taught Sunday School for many years and was involved with the after school children’s activities at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, Virginia with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
