Katherine Easley "Pet" Hairston

Katherine E. Hairston “Pet”, 77, of Bassett, passed away on March 7, 2022 peacefully at her home.  She was born in Henry County on December 4, 1944 to the late Sam Lee Easley and the late Savannah H. Easley.  She was also preceded in death by death by her husband George R. Hairston; brothers, Billy A. Easley, Samuel L. Easley, MacArthur L. Easley; baby Easley; sisters Barbara Lee Easley.
Katherine was a member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bassett where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board, Gospel Star Choir and Trustee in Training.
Katherine “Pet” was a pillow for other children while her daughter attended High School and College.  In her spare time, she loved to cook her special dumplings, homemade bread, strawberry and peach cobbler, pinto beans & her special fried chicken.  Once everyone was served, she would sit back and drink her a cold Pepsi or Coke.
Surviving; her daughter, Malethia H. Manns; two grandchildren, Terrance J. Schoefield and Vintoria S. Manns; two sisters, Vera A. Thornton of Martinsville, VA and Mary I. Brown of Chesapeake, VA; special niece, Alison S. Easley of Raleigh, NC; a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 14 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the chapel the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bassett.   A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Carver Memorial Gardens.
