Cassie Mae Carter

Cassie Mae Carter, one of twelve children born to Lynwood and Lizzie Pritchett on October 5, 1929. She attended Public Schools in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Cassie departed this life on the evening of April 8, 2022.

Cassie grew up during the Great Depression to Sharecropper parents where the value of hard work was instilled in her. She worked for American Furniture for over thirty years until her retirement and rarely missed a day of work. She won the NO Absentee Award for most of those years.

Cassie was united in marriage to Jessie James Turner at the age of twenty-one and two children were born of that marriage, Linda Marie Turner, and Jesse James Turner, Jr.

Cassie leaves to mourn her memory one daughter, Linda Marie Turner and one sister, Martha (Clarence)Lynch; two granddaughters, Sharika (Geri) Crawford and April M. Turner; one grandson, Dirk D. Turner; great-grandchildren, Yakira Turner, Dasjie Turner, Nija Turner, Dreama Turner, and Nakyia Turner; and great-great-grandchildren, Jahiem Turner, Ka’cyon Washington, Kaeden Gardner, and Kirion Inabinette; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Cassie was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie James Turner; her son, Jesse James Turner; four sisters, Shirley Wade, Mildred Moore, Dorothy Turner and Marie Turner; six brothers, James Pritchett, Joe Pritchett, George Pritchett, William Pritchett, Willie Pritchett, and Marvin Pritchett; and one grandson, Jeremiah Turner.

A Homegoing service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at the Pritchett family cemetery. A visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service.
