Melvin McGhee Smith

Melvin McGhee Smith, 86, of Eden North Carolina, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Wake Forest Medical Center. He was born October 10, 1935, in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late John Elijah Smith and Bessie Mae Wall Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Smith.

Melvin was a member of Friendly Worship Center and had retired with forty years service at Fieldcrest Mills. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on the farm. He was a Scout Master and a Cub Scout Master.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Thomas Smith; daughter, Sherry Garrett (Michael); son, Todd Smith (Angie); sister Mary Ann Cox; brother, Woodson Smith (Carol); grandchildren, Conner and Kayla; and special caregivers Jean Andrade, and Mary Nester.

Services will be held at Friendly Worship Center, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 2 PM, with Pastor Robert Hilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
