Avis Ramsey Fulcher

June 29, 1940 - May 1, 2025

Avis Ramsey Fulcher, 84, of Bassett, Virginia passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025. She was born in Bassett, Virginia to William Pete Ramsey and Mabel Watkins Ramsey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank “Pete” Fulcher, sister Pauline “Polly” Ramsey Joyce, brothers Roney L. Ramsey and Calvin W. Ramsey.

She is survived by three sons, Mark D. Fulcher of Bassett, Barry D. Fulcher and wife, Candy of Bassett, and John Pete Fulcher and wife, Mandye of Radford; two granddaughters, Jessica F. Tunnell (Logan) of Bassett; Meadow F. Sexton (Nate) of Bassett; one step grandson, Cody Kitts (Kyra) of Radford; two great grandson, Bellamy Brook Tunnell and David Pete Sexton; and her brother, Jimmy M. Ramsey of Bassett along with many nieces and nephews.

Avis was a graduate of Bassett High School and a very active member of Fort Trial Baptist Church. She loved her church and over the years served in the nursery, librarian, and on numerous committees. She traveled across the United States with the church’s Senior Citizens Group on numerous trips on the church bus keeping everyone entertain with her sister Polly.

She retired from Fieldcrest Mills after 45 years as a secretary to the Plant Engineer.

Additionally, Avis enjoyed fishing, vegetable and flower gardening, and yard work with her husband Pete. The couple shared the surplus from the garden each Sunday with the members of Fort Trial Baptist.

A special thanks goes out to Mountain Valley Hospice, Cindy Spence, and Mary Pritt who looked after Avis over the last few months.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 5, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Fort Trial Baptist Church of Stanleytown, Virginia.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Fort Trial Baptist Church with Reverends Daniel Reed and Tony Beach officiating. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park, Bassett, Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Forward With Faith Building Fund at Fort Trial Baptist Church, 170 Oak Level Rd, Stanleytown, VA 24168.
