Barbara Ann Taylor Shively

Barbara Ann Taylor Shively, 86, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Stanleytown Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 24, 1939, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late William Paul Taylor and Helen Frances Bailey Taylor. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Faye Shively Nester; son-in-law, Nelson Nester; brother, Paul Lewis “Buck” Taylor; and brother-in-law, Paul Lewis; and three nephews, Ricky Lewis, Ronnie Lewis, and Brian Taylor.

Mrs. Shively was a graduate of Martinsville High School and went on to work as a secretary at Stanley Furniture. A devoted member of Fort Trail Baptist Church, she found great joy in her faith and community. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved grandchildren, whom she lovingly cared for and often watched.

She is survived by her husband, Denver Carlton Shively; daughter, Denise Osborne (Steve); sisters, Patsy Wood (Rev. Jim Wood) and Frances Lewis; grandchildren, Jessica Inman, Ashley Raines, Bethany Atkinson, and Tiffany Osborne; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services. The funeral service will be following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services with Rev. Tony Beach officiating. Burial will follow the service at Henry Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fort Trial Baptist Church, 170 Oak Level Rd, Stanleytown, VA 24168.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Stanleytown Health and Rehabilitation Center as well as Commonwealth Hospice for their excellent care of Barbara for her last few months. Also, special thanks to Regina “Orphan” Hall for her love and care of Barbara at home for several years.
