Barbara Estes Moore
Barbara Estes Moore, of New Castle, Virginia a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 78 in Roanoke, Virginia. Born on February 24, 1947, in Roanoke, she lived a full life marked by dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.
Barbara's life was one of warmth, generosity, and love. She was the beloved wife of Jerry Moore, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and an enduring partnership. Together, they raised a family that came to include their devoted son, Deane Moore, and their caring daughter, Candace Burton. Barbara's joy was multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Kierston and Vincent Burton, and later, her great-grandchildren, Kyleke Eggleston and Kaydene Burton. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and faith. Barbara was preceded in death by her dear parents, Minor Estes and Claudine Huffman Estes, her cherished son, Darian Moore, and her brother, Don Estes, all of whom she held close in her heart.
Barbara's academic pursuits culminated in earning a Bachelor's Degree, which opened the door to a fulfilling career as an Administrative Assistant at Virginia Tech. Her work was not just a job; it was an extension of her commitment to serve and support others. She was highly respected by her colleagues and formed lasting friendships throughout her tenure.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Barbara was a dedicated member of the Gravel Hill Christian Church in Newport, Virginia. Her spirituality was a guiding force in her life, and she found great solace and joy in attending services, participating in church activities, and being part of her faith community. She also shared her musical talents by playing the piano, often bringing the melodies of hymns and praise to those around her. Barbara's interests extended beyond her work and church life. She had a passion for playing the piano, which brought harmony and beauty to many family gatherings and quiet afternoons at home. Her grandchildren will fondly remember the special times they spent with her, especially the shopping trips that were about much more than purchases—they were about the laughter, stories, and love that she freely shared.
An avid sports fan, Barbara enjoyed watching games and cheering for her favorite teams. These moments of excitement and camaraderie were yet another way she connected with those she loved, creating lasting memories over shared victories and friendly rivalries.
Barbara's legacy is one of unwavering love, selfless service, and the gentle strength that she carried throughout her life. She made the world a better place by touching the lives of everyone she met with her kindness and compassion. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will continue to honor her life by embodying the values she cherished so deeply.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Kendall Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Sarver officiating.
