Barbara Hopkins Young

Barbara Hopkins Young, 85, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026.

Born to the late James Hopkins and Grace Williams Hopkins, Barbara lived a life filled with love, faith, and adventure. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy Hopkins and Butch Hopkins.

Barbara leaves behind cherished memories with her devoted husband, Harold Wilson Young; her daughter, Cindy Young Mitchell (Mitch); her sons, Jeff Young (Lynae) and Bryan Young; her brothers, Mitch Hopkins and Michael Hopkins; her sister,  Teeny Wynn; and her beloved grandchildren, Montana Young, Adrian Mitchell, Travis Knott, Stefan Knott, and Robbie Knott. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her legacy.

A woman of Baptist faith, Barbara had a deep love for travel and adventure. She proudly visited all 50 states and explored many countries, including Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand. Among all the places she experienced, her favorite was Chicken, Alaska—a destination that reflected her unique spirit and zest for life.

Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to family, and her remarkable stories gathered from a lifetime of travel and love.

A funeral service will be held at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Joe Dillon and Pastor Carson Williams will be presiding. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park.

Barbara’s life was a beautiful journey, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
