Barbara Mason Clarkson
Barbara Ann Clarkson, 88, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 5, 2025.
Born in Lynchburg on October 30, 1936, Barbara devoted her life to her family and her faith. After graduating from E.C Glass High School and Lynchburg College, she served for many years as an organist for several churches—a role that brought her great joy and allowed her to share her deep love of music and worship with her community. She also spent her time as a homemaker caring for her family keeping the house meticulously clean and was an avid tennis player. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. In addition to the love and dedication she showed to her family, she was a strong Christian and loved nothing more than serving and speaking openly about her faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late J.B Mason and Mary Estelle Daniel Mason, her brother Paul Mason, sisters Iris Mattox (Paul) and Polly Gamble (John), her beloved granddaughter Tiffany Clarkson, and her sister-in-law Barbara Jean Higginbotham (Dale).
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Earl F. Clarkson, Jr.; her son, Barry and wife Pam, daughter, Janet and husband Greg. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Nathan, Brittney and Lauren along with their spouses Jessica, Leif and Dylan. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Olivia, Tucker, Stella and Grayson. She is also survived by her brothers Jimmy (Maxine) Mason of Roanoke, VA and Don (Jean) Mason of Brentwood, TN along with her many nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering faith, and the grace with which she lived her life. She touched so many lives through her gifts and talents as well as her fervent dedication of faith to her Lord and Savior.
A graveside service celebrating Barbara’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Briarwood Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Mike Fitzgerald officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
