Barbara Rea

Barbara Rea, 87, of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 16, 1936, in Virginia, to the late Thelma Lucy Snow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, John L. Gilliam, and one daughter, Helen Boyd.

Barbara was a licensed beautician for more than 50 years. She retired from Nationwide Homes after 15 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially during the holidays, when she would prepare heartfelt dinners for all to enjoy. She was a lover of animals, both cats and dogs; she treated them just like family. She was an avid reader and could finish most novels in one day. She loved listening to country and gospel music, painting, gardening, and visiting yard sales whenever the opportunity presented itself, and you could count on her having a cup of coffee in her hand while enjoying all that she did.

Barbara is survived by three sons, Cristopher J. Rea (Hope), Michael S. Rea, and Joel Lester Rea; a daughter she took in as her own, Sherrie Wright; one grandson, BJ Boyd, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 1:30pm at Valley Drive Baptist Church. The family receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.

Barbara was a true animal lover. Her final wish was that the pacemaker that kept her own heart beating could be used to save the life of a beloved pet.
