Barry Marc Rice

Barry Marc Rice, 75, of Hurt, Virginia passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024. He was born March 14, 1949, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Jesse Otis Rice and Rachel Elizabeth Marston Rice.Barry was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and was a 1967 graduate of Brookville High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology in 1971 from Averett University. He loved teaching sciences and coaching football, softball, and basketball. Barry was an entrepreneur who owned/operated numerous restaurants and customer service businesses. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger. Music was a big part of his life; he loved making and listening to music, including being a part in of the No Name Band. In his free time, you could find Barry on the plush greens, playing golf.He is survived by his loving wife Angela Adams Motley Rice; daughter, Tally Updike (Ben); sons, James Gregory (Jasmine), Richard Gregory (Gelsey), and Benjamin Gregory; sister, Kaye Wilson (Alfred); best friend and first cousin, Dr. Don Carwile; and grandchildren, Audrey, Gabe, Isaiah, Jameson, John, and Adrianna.A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM at New Prospect Baptist Church, 509 Prospect Baptist Church Road, Hurt, Virginia.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 509 Prospect Road, Hurt, VA 24563.Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
