Berlean South Bailey

Berlean South Bailey, 89, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025. Berlean was born in Draper, NC on January 27, 1936 to the late Jacob “Jake” Henry South and the late Eva Maness South.

Berlean was of the Christian faith and a member of South Danville Church of Christ. She worked for many years for Belk Leggett previous to her retirement.

Berlean is survived by a daughter; Margaret B. Irby and husband Harold of Gretna, VA; a son; Peter B. Bailey and wife Kristi of Ringgold, VA; two sisters; Dessie South Cox of New Castle, VA and Margaret South Hall of Eden, NC; three grandchildren; Nicholas Ryan Bailey (Katie), Caitlin Elizabeth Bailey, and Noah Benjamin Irby; and a great granddaughter; Fiona Blue Bailey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother; John Coolidge South.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring staff at Mulberry Creek Nursing and Rehab Center.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Matthew Cox officiating. A visitation will be held on the same day previous to the service from 1-2:00pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel.
