Bernard "Bernie" Hoffman Hayden

Bernard “Bernie” Hayden, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a long-time resident of the Roanoke Valley.

Bernard was married to Polly Ann Hale Hayden for 47 years prior to her passing in 2019. He dearly loved his wife.

He is survived by two stepsons, Vincent Lackey of Stuart, VA, and Hunter E. Lackey (Teresa Mullins Lackey) of Dendron, VA; five grandchildren; as well as five great-grandchildren.

Bernie served in the U.S. Army where he worked as one of the earliest Computer Technicians. After leaving the Army he continued to work in the computer business until his retirement. He loved to fish and moved to Smith Mountain Lake so he could fish more often. He was born in Pittsburgh and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He loved his family and will be sorely missed!!

Services to honor his life will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, November 1, 2024, in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.
