Bernita Farris Taylor

Bernita Farris Taylor, 65, transitioned from her earthly life on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Martinsville, Virginia. She was born February 13, 1960, in Martinsville to the late Albert Ramey and Mary Farris Ramey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Taylor M. Farris, Sr.

A dedicated employee, she previously worked in the textile industry. Nothing made her happier than cooking for her family and friends. Her kitchen was always full of laughter, good food, and love. Bernita loved being surrounded by friends and family, and her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She was known by her friends and family as a lady with a green thumb who loved gardening and taking care of the things she planted. Although she is no longer with us, she will always be remembered for the legacy of love she left her family.

She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Tosha Penn (Jimmie), Stepdaughter, Antoinette Burnett (Brian); sons, Joey L. Taylor, Joseph Taylor, III; sisters, Pamula Carter (Fred), Sharon Barksdale (Wendell); sister-in-law Carol Farris (Taylor); brothers, Richard J. Hairston (Tamma), Danny E. Hairston (Denise), Albert A. Ramey (Tuwanda); eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be one-half hour prior to the service. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the acts of love and kindness that have been shown during this difficult time.
