Bertha Louise Hartless Burger

Bertha Louise Hartless Burger, 97, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025. Bertha is preceded in death by her father, Wiley Moses, mother, Willie Moses; daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Garland; brothers, Claude Moses, Lawrence McFaden; sisters, Mary Conner, Gertrude Moses and Nadine Stump.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kessler; son, Herman “HC” Hartless III; special great-granddaughter, Kourtney Peek; grandchildren, Curtis Hartless (Tina), Shannon Carr (Christy), Marnie Chitwood, Felicia Mitchell (Brian), Amanda Lewis (Nate), Missy Garland and Eddie Garland; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Darlene Johnson; special friends, Elouise Bowman, Liz Lily and Rocky Price.

Bertha loved working puzzles and talking to friends on the telephone. She attended Beacon Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia.

Special thanks to caregiver’s granddaughter, Missy Garland, great-granddaughter, Destiny Garland, and to Amedisys Hospice they were outstanding in making Mama comfortable in her final days.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Lotz Funeral Home-Vinton. A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Lotz Funeral Home, 305 East Washington Avenue, Vinton with Pastor Don Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Burial Park.
