Bessie Nichols Peters

Bessie Nichols Peters, 92, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at her residence. She was born November 21, 1931, in Endicott, VA to the late Victoria Boothe Nichols and Thurman W. Nichols. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, J.H. Eugene Peters, and her siblings, Wilton Nichols, Irene Price, Thelma Saunders, Etta Snead, Macie Riden, Hatha Jane Rich, Edna Handy, Della Mae Price, and Glendola Midkiff.Mrs. Peters was a proud member of Stone Memorial Christian Church. She had been a long-time member of Christian Faith Church of Union Bridge, before joining Stone Memorial Christian Church in 2017.She is survived by her son, Jeffrey D. (Brenda) of Bassett, VA and grandchildren, Bradley W. Jacobson (Torra), Jeffrey (JD) Peters Jr. (Stacy), Ronald Logan Peters, and great-grandchildren, Joshua Jacobson (Valery), Savannah Lumpkin (Tyler), Justin Jacobson, Cheyenne Watson, Luke Peters, Lyra Peters and great great-grandchildren, Teeghan Watson, and Sutton Jacobson. The family is eagerly awaiting the arrival of another great great-granddaughter (Lainey) in May.Mrs. Peters is also survived by her brother Bud (Bo) Nichols, and her two sisters- n- laws, Clovice Cooper of Ridgeway, VA, and Edith Haskins of Bellview, FL.Bessie retired from E.I. DuPont where she had worked for over 40 years. She and her husband enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their grandchildren, gardening, traveling, and playing Rook with the family. Bessie was an extraordinary cook, and for over 25 years she cooked a family meal every Wednesday evening for all to enjoy at her home. Bessie will be remembered as a very giving person that often offered her home to those in need.The family would like to express their love and thankfulness to Bessie’s caregivers: Christe Haley, Pat Duers, Peggy Richards, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice. Their help allowed Bessie to remain in her home throughout her illness.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Stone Memorial Christian Church, Collinsville at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at Noon. Burial will follow the service at the family cemetery in Endicott, VA.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stone Memorial Christian Church in Collinsville.Norris Funeral Services, Inc. of Martinsville is serving the Peters family.
