Betty Adamson Teske
Betty Adamson Teske, 86, of Blacksburg fell asleep in Christ, Saturday, March 1, 2025, following a short stay under hospice care at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on October 10, 1938, to the late George Dent and Evelyn (Thomasson) Adamson, the family moved to Blacksburg when Betty was a young girl. Betty graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1955 where she was crowned Miss BHS. She was an instructor for the Floyd Ward School of Dance from 1956 -1962 in ballet and other forms of dance. She also was a freelance writer for the Blacksburg Sun newspaper in the early 70's before she became involved with the volunteer organization, Red Cross Volunteers through the hospital in Blacksburg. Her time with the Red Cross Volunteers lead to an interest in nursing, and she began pursuing her nursing degree. Betty went on to graduate from Wytheville Community College Nursing Program in 1980 and spent over 25 years working as a Registered Nurse at St. Albans Hospital. Betty was an active member of St. Philip’s Anglican Church. Betty also enjoyed the company and social activities of her friends in The Red Hat Society. Betty is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law: Eric W. Teske of Blacksburg, Shawn M. and Kristin Teske of Atlanta; grandchildren: Cara (Noah) Carlson of Sweetwater, TN; Kelli Teske of Atlanta; Jacob Teske of Blacksburg; great-grandchildren: Malachi, Ezra, and Eliyanah Carlson; sister: Martha Webb of Rustburg; brother-in-law: Richard M. Wingard, Sr. of McKinney, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, August Frank Teske, Jr. and a sister, Jacquelin Adamson Wingard. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Blacksburg with Father Wade Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 7, 2025, at McCoy Funeral Home.
