Betty Gibson

February 6, 1946 - February 21, 2026

Mrs. Betty Williams Gibson, age 80, of Covington, died Saturday, February 21, 2026, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Gerald Wayne Gibson, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2018.

Mrs. Gibson was born February 6, 1946 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Roy Alonzo Williams and Marie Lois Davis. Betty had been employed as a sales representative for Avon for fifty years before her retirement. She was a very active member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church and served as Sunday school superintendent for more than twenty-five years. Mrs. Gibson loved her church family and enjoyed spending time with them. Betty was a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook and gardener. She enjoyed preparing goods and produce and setting up at the Farmer's Market. Betty was very active in her children's school PTO and served on the Covington City School Board. She was also a member of the Covington Moose Lodge #610 Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by son, Gerald Wayne Gibson, Jr. and wife, Trish of Covington; a daughter, April Gibson Reyns and husband, Frank of Covington; grandchildren, AdriAnne Reynolds and husband, Daniel, Katie N. Gibson, Mahaley Reyns Broughman and husband, Holden; Derek Gibson and wife, Lizzie, Rachel Reyns, Lake Dilley and husband, Aaron; great grandchildren, Eloise Broughman, LilliAnna Reynolds, Forest Reynolds, Liam Dilley and Weston Dilley; brothers, Marshall Williams and wife, Susan; a sister, Karen Icenhour and husband, Paul of Hickory, NC; a special nephew, Edward G. Gibson, III; and a special friend, Marlene Faidley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacey N. Gibson and a sister, Anna Williams.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2026 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until time of service at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be Derek Gibson, Holden Broughman, Adam Broughman, Berkley Paxton, Larry Fridley, Edward W. Gibson, III, Frederick Gibson, Daniel Reynolds, Mike Broughman and James Wishon.

Alternate pallbearer will be James H. Reyns, Jr.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
