Betty J. Cline

Betty J. Cline, 88, of Bassett, Va., died on January 1, 2023, at her residence. She was born March 5, 1934, in Patrick County to the late Charlie Columbus Joyce and Edna Archie Turner Joyce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Wilson Cobler, Sr., and her second husband Joseph Hillard Cline; her two sons George “G.W.” Cobbler, Jr., and Curtis Roy “Rocky” Cobler; her twin brother Billy Joyce, her sisters Eva Dale Joyce, Dellie Day, and Doris Bryant; her brothers Nelson Joyce and Clyde Joyce; and her daughter-in-law Debbie Bowman Cline.

Betty worked for Stanley Furniture for many years and was very proud of her position as Forelady. She was also a devoted caretaker once she retired from Stanley, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her loving family and tending to her beautiful garden.

Betty is survived by her son, Mike (Vickie) Cline; grandchildren Johnny (Paige) Cobbler David (Sherris) Cobbler, Terry (George) Cobbler, Wilson (Heather) Cobbler, Amanda Olvera, Lanca Foster, Kris (Sabrina) Cobler, Sarah Cobler, Nick (Emily) Cobler, Jackie (Jasen) Pfuntner. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way, as well as her sisters: Mabel (William) Young, Tiney Harold, and Belvie (Ernest) Mays.  

A visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the Bassett Funeral Service chapel. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023, with Pastors Rudy Robertson and Jon Canning presiding. Burial will follow in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Bassett, Va.
