Betty Jean Arthur
Betty Jean Arthur, 86, of Stanleytown, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Sovah Health Martinsville. She was born on June 2, 1938, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Posey E. Lawson and Josie Lou Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Julie A. Arthur Doss, and her brother, Raymond Lawson.
Betty was a devoted member of the Oak Level Road Church of Christ, where her faith was a constant source of strength and guidance throughout her life. She treasured the time spent with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren, and was known for her nurturing spirit and ensuring everyone enjoyed a warm, hearty meal. Her care and compassion were particularly evident in the exceptional attention she devoted to her eldest child, Debra. Betty also had a profound love for nature, finding peace and inspiration in the beauty of the beach, the serenity of the mountains, and the joy of gardening.
She is survived by her loving husband, Earl Arthur; her children, Debra Arthur, Danny Arthur (Ginger), Posey Arthur (Donna), and Betty Jo Ransome (Louis); seven grandchildren, Joseph Arthur (Crystal), April Arthur (McClain), Kayla Shelton Hambrick (Travis), Jonathan W. Shelton (Lesley), Hannah Doss-Lamb (Brian), Savannah Doss, and Sara Doss; eight great-grandchildren, Brianna, Riley, Raylan, Mason, Maverick, Willow, Charlotte, and Benjamin; one great-great-grandchildren, Richard; and a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral service to honor Betty’s life will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 1:00pm at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Minister Donald Kendrick and Minister Gary Hollandsworth officiating. A Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
