Betty Jean Hood

August 14, 1940 - March 21, 2023

Betty J. Hood, age 82 of Glade Hill went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 21, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Willie Hodges; multiple brothers and sisters; her husband of 50 years, Walter “Alex” Hood; two sons, Barry Hood and Billy Hood; two daughters, Angela Dudley and Tammy Hodges; one grandson, Scott Cundiff; and one great-grandson, Thomas Berg. Surviving are her daughter, Bonnie Altice (Rickey); son, Bobby Hood (Phyllis); son-in-law, Jimmy Dale Hodges; grandchildren, Darrell Hodges, Crystal Berg, Walter “Buck” Dudley, Brandon Altice (Kristen), Otis Dudley (Josey), Caleb Hood, Rebecca Sink; great-grandchildren, Destiny “Nicole” Berg, Zoe Berg, Jason Altice, Jacob Altice and Lyric Hayden; one sister, Peggy Hodges (Gilbert); many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Betty Lou Hood, Faye Beckner, and Diane Durham. She was a caregiver for 60 years. Betty was loved by many and was the matriarch of our family. Special thanks to ProMedica Hospice nurses, Luz, Karen and Natasha and her caregivers, Crystal Berg, Kristen Altice and Cathy Foley for their care. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Hall Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
