Betty Ray Arrington
Betty Ray Arrington of Callands, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of the late John Kenneth Arrington. Betty was born to James Hopson Merricks and Lula Pearl Wright Merricks. She is not only preceded in death by her late parents and loving husband, but also her sister, Mary Ellen Rigney; and brothers John Merricks, Eugene Merricks, and Bobby Merricks.
She had a deep love for animals and found great joy in caring for them throughout her life. While she never had children of her own, her nieces and nephews were her pride and joy. Creative and artistic by nature, Betty brought beauty into everything she touched, always finding ways to make the world around her a little more beautiful. She cherished the memories of growing up on her family farm and felt most at peace surrounded by nature and the animals she loved while living in the country. It was her happy place where she felt most herself and closest to nature. Her kind heart, joyful spirit, and creative soul made her someone everyone loved to see and be around. Betty’s warm smile and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Left to cherish the memories of Betty are her sisters-in-law, Priscilla Merricks and Claire Arrington; brother-in-law, Billy Rigney; nephew, Jerome Mattox (Sherry); niece, Andrea Holley (Donald); and many beloved great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service officiated by Daryl Joyce will take place at 2:00 P.M. at Liberty Baptist Church is Callands, Virginia, on Sunday, November 2, 2025, with receiving of friends at 1:00 P.M. at the church. She will lovingly be laid to rest with her husband in the church cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Danville Humane Society, SPCA of Pittsylvania County, or any charity of your choice.
