Betty Ruth Gammons Spencer

Betty Ruth Gammons Spencer, 90, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away January 13, 2024, at Mulberry Creek Nursing Home. She was born on June 25, 1933, to the late Zeb William Gammons and Nannie Mae Goins Gammons. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her son, Winford Spencer; granddaughter, Charity Spencer; stepmother, Ruth Merkey Gammons; five brothers, Harold Gammons, Clarence Gammons, Edgar Gammons, Charles Gammons, and Thomas Gammons; two sisters, Pauline Martin and Irene Stevens; and son-in-law, Robert Harris.

Betty worked at the Virginia Mirror Company. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her priority was her role as a loving and devoted mother.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Brenda Harris; sons, Dwayne “Fred” Spencer (Dana) and Ronald Spencer; grandchildren, Justin Harris (Tara), Chasity Craig, Brooke Allman, Kayley Spencer, Jeremy Spencer, Nick Spencer, Travis Jones, and Jade Bowling; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Inez Roberts; brothers, Ralph Gammons and Sammy Gammons; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
