Betty Shively Clark
Betty Jo Shively Clark, 86, of Salem, Virginia, departed from this life after a long illness on September 21, 2024. She was born in Ferrum, Virgina, on November 25, 1937, to Elbert Shively and Eva Bryant Shively.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 53 years, Ervin Jerome “Joe” Clark.
Betty is survived by two sons, Budgie Clark of Salem, Virginia, and Dale Clark and wife Andrea, of Salem, Virginia.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Alexys Clark of Holiday, Florida, Jenna Dooley ( Travis) of Roanoke, Virginia, Allison Taylor ( Gabe) of Roanoke, Virginia, Chanse Clark of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Caiden Clark, of Palm Harbor , Florida, and two great-grandchildren, Rowyn Dooley and Barrett Dooley.
Two sisters survive, Elinor Draper of Bassett, Virginia and Janet Fulcher of Collinsville, Virginia. One brother, Elbert, “Buddy” Shively ( Mary) of Henry, Virginia, one sister in law, Jean Clark of Hurricane, West Virginia, along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great – grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, going to church, reading, working crossword puzzles, listening to Gospel music, cooking (baking brownies was her specialty), and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed taking trips to the beach with Joe and eating at K + W restaurant.
Betty began her working career as a X-ray technician receiving her certificate from Pulaski Hospital in 1958. It is there where she met her love and soulmate, Joe. After leaving there, Betty worked for General Electric, Stuart McGuire and Home Shopping Network,
She loved going to church. Betty was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia where she assisted in many activities, and enjoyed working in the nursery.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Virginia.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 6:00- 8:00 pm at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, Virginia.
