Betty Sue Williams Pruitt
Betty Sue Williams Pruitt, age 87 of Chatham, Virginia went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Mrs. Pruitt was born June 9, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late Mary Sue Yeatts William and the late Jesse Anderson Williams.
A dedicated member of Mill Creek Community Church, she served as pianist/organist for over 65 years. She was also the Church Clerk and WMU director for over 40 years, and Sunday School teacher to the young people for many years, as well as many other positions in the church.
She was a long-time member of Morgan-Johnson Chapter No. 44, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron two years, organist and secretary for over 50 years. She was a Grand Representative of Delaware in Virginia for the years of 2003-2004, which was an honor to her and her Chapter. She was also a member of Gretna Chapter No. 118, Order of the Eastern Star serving as organist. She held many committee positions in the state. After an enjoyable 44 years of service, she retired in 2001 from Farm Credit of the Virginias in the Chatham Office.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Pruitt Creasy (Barry) of Chatham; one son, John Melton Pruitt (Valerie) of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Ashley Betterton Moon, Mark Anthony Betterton (Sheree), Susan Creasy Evans (Tommy), Jessica Marie Pruitt, and Rebecca Grace Pruitt (Juliana), and her best friend of 58 years, Zona Oakes, Aubrey Bennett, and the Hardee’s gang.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul Melton Pruitt, who passed away August 7, 2018; and her two brothers, Joseph Harold “Joe” Williams and Jesse Donald Williams.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 1, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Mill Creek Community Church with Pastor Darrell Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Norris Funeral Service, Chatham Chapel. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence of Mrs. Pruitt.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to a favorite charity.
