Betty Williams Cumbee

February 7, 1940 - June 4, 2025

Betty Lee Williams Cumbee, formerly of Pembroke, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at Heritage Hall Rich Creek. Born on February 7, 1940, in Giles County, Virginia, Betty's life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and the simple joys that create a life well-lived.

Betty's early years laid the foundation for a life characterized by warmth, generosity, and a deep love for her family. She brought light and laughter to the lives of everyone around her, and her presence was a comforting constant to those she loved. Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Clarence Patton Williams and Annie Belle Neice Williams, and she carried their legacy of kindness throughout her life.

Betty's heart was always fullest when surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother to her sons Danny, Mickey, Roger, and Barry Tawney, and her daughters Linda Bratton (Keith), Brenda Neice (Allen), and Mary Dean. Her love extended effortlessly to her grandchildren Kim Tawney Author, Brian Tawney, Lindsay Tawney Bailey, Brittany Tawney, Blaine Tawney, Jason Tawney, Joshua Tawney, Richard Hodge, Amanda Neice, Shanika Dean, Devin Dean, Amber Gordon, and Gavin Givens, as well as her 22 great-grandchildren. Each of them was touched by her nurturing spirit and unwavering support. Her brothers, Billy Williams (Dorothy) and Jackie Williams (Pam), and sister, Rita Manning (Danny Terry), along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, will remember Betty for her boundless energy and the joy she found in life's simple pleasures. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Alfred Tawney and Ronnie Cumbee, and her brother, Bobby Ray Williams.

Throughout her life, Betty's work history and association involvements were always secondary to her primary role as the matriarch of her family. She loved her family fiercely and unconditionally, and her dedication to them was evident in every action she took. She found great contentment in sitting on her porch, greeting passersby with a wave and a smile that could light up the entire street.
