Beverly Handy

May 3, 1957 - October 1, 2025

Beverly Handy, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Blacksburg, Virginia, on October 1, 2025. Born on May 3, 1957, in San Bernardino, California, Beverly grew up with a strong spirit and an even stronger work ethic—qualities that shaped every part of her life. She graduated from Giles County High School and spent many years working at Virginia Tech in the Maintenance Department. Known for her dedication, no-nonsense attitude, and straight-shooter personality, Beverly was respected by her colleagues and valued for her tireless contributions. Of all her roles in life, none brought her more pride and joy than being a mother and grandmother. Beverly was the proud mother of five children and the loving grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and the heart of her world. Beverly faced life’s challenges with determination. She was a gifted cook and, in her prime, delighted in preparing homemade meals from scratch—dishes made with love. She is preceded in death by her father, Carl Alexander Gusler, and her sister, Vicki Gusler Sheppard. She is survived by her beloved children: Earl Brunk and his wife Alissa, Lori Jones and her husband Kenny, Samantha Stanley, David Stanley and his wife Rebecca, and Ryan Handy. She also leaves behind her cherished mother, Viola Gusler; her sisters, Barbara (and Dexter Cook) and Sandra (and Chris Sublett); her brothers, John Gusler (and Jacki), Allen Gusler (and Susie), and Gary Gusler; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly. Beverly's legacy lives on in the strength of her children, the warmth of her family, and the countless lives she touched with her honesty, resilience, and love. A Celebration of Life will be held at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, VA on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a local charity of your choice in Beverly’s memory.
