Billy Elliott Franklin, 74, of Gladys passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Hospice House in Bedford. He was the husband of Marie McKinney Franklin.

Born on July 7, 1949, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James George Franklin and Mattie Eleanor Franklin. He was a member of Kedron Baptist Church in Gladys, VA. Billy served his community as a member of the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department, retiring after 19 years. He was also a member of the Appomattox Rescue Squad for four years. He retired from VDOT in 2017. His favorite things to do were hunting and camping.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Garrett and husband, Jason of Appomattox, and Emily Burks and husband, Douglas of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, Megan Bruffy, Mason Andrews, Halley Rose, Noah Franklin, Rileigh Knight, Kinsley Burks, and Lucas Burks; five great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Kyla, Nathan, and Reese Bruffy, and Stella Andrews; sister, Roberta Austin; and brother, Roger D. Franklin both of Appomattox.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carrol Alvin Franklin.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Friday, November 24, 2023, at Hollywood Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
