Billy Grey Smith

Mr. Billy Grey Smith, age 90, Mount Airy, passed away at Dunmore Plantation Friday morning, June 28, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Mr. Smith was born August 6, 1933, to the late Troy Smith and Maude Golding Smith. He was a family man, well respected within the community, never met a stranger, and willing to help others in need. In his spare time, he had a great passion for woodworking, loved watching NASCAR races, and chewing BIG RED chewing gum. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter and sons-in-law, Sylvia Smith Gentry and Randy, Rex Hardy; his adored grandchildren and their spouses, Adrianne George and husband Richard Migliara, Tasha Crotts and Jackie, Chase Hardy and Shannon, Stephen George and Julie; his cherished great grandchildren, Alba Migliara, Gabe George, Amelia Grey George, Carrigan Crotts, Jared Crotts, Novah Crotts, Kylee Crotts, Jay Crotts, Campbell Hardy, Mason Hardy; sisters-in-law, Maxine Beck, Maria Beck. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his loving wife of many years Peggy Beck Smith; daughter, Sharon Smith Hardy; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Smith Johnson and Otis; brother and sister-in-law, Carl Ray Smith and Maurine. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex Martin and Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. The family will receive friends at Calvary Baptist Church Wednesday, July 3, 2024, from 12:30 until 2:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Mount Airy Post#2019 and Pilot Mountain Post#9436. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations would be made to the Sharon Smith Hardy Memorial Fund, c/o Surry County School Foundation, 209 N. Crutch field Street, Dobson, NC. 27017 or to Dunmore Plantation, P.O. Box 705, Dobson, NC. 27017. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and prayers during Mr. Smith’s sickness.
