Billy James Harter

Billy James Harter, 82, of Bassett, Virginia passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his residence. He was born April 1, 1940, in Floyd, Virginia to the late James Mason and Nancy Annie Belcher Harter. He worked at Stanley Furniture for over forty years as a sander and was a member of Collinsville Covenant Church of the Brethren. He never met a stranger and always welcomed everyone with open arms. He loved his grandchildren, was light hearted and joked a lot. He enjoyed watching westerns and doing word puzzles. He loved sitting on the porch with his dog Suzy watching the cars go by.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Tammy Harter Terry and Penny Harter; sister, Frances Harter Cochram and brother, Freeman Harter.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Wilson Harter; son, Tony Harter (Angel); sister, Rachel Heffinger; brother, Bobby Harter (Charlotte); grandchildren, Anna Terry, Valery H. Jacobson (Josh), Emma H. Shrewsberry (Tanner), Matthew Terry and Zackary Harter and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Wright Funeral Service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Roy McVey officiating. Burial will follow at Henry Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
