Billy Lee Campbell

Billy Lee Campbell, age 97 of Rocky Mount, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born December 27, 1928 in Mingo County, WV, the son of the late George Lee Campbell and Edna Bell Sutherland Campbell Bowles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Alonza Thomas Bowles.Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Brenda Compton Campbell; children, Barbara (Bob) Huffman, Steven (Laurie) Hodges and Sherri (David) Perdue; grandchildren, Ryan (Charis) Hodges and Dylan (Katelin) Taylor; and great-granddaughter, Laurel Brook Hodges.Billy was a graduate of Rocky Mount High School, Class of 1948. He retired from Lane Company after over 42 years of service, where he served as a Finishing Supervisor. He was also a longtime member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He cared deeply for his family, as well as many people throughout his life who were just good friends. He was known for his storytelling, whether it was about remembering the day he was drafted into the military, tales from his days at Lane Company, or any period of his life. When you saw him, his main goal was to get a laugh from you. He genuinely enjoyed making others and those around him happy.The family would like to thank Lewis Gale Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for all the care they provided Billy in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or a charity of your choice.A Celebration of Life will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026 with Pastor Trevor Clatterbuck officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park with Military Honors. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
