Bredennia (Dennia) Kaye Burton

July 15, 1948 - December 1, 2025

Bredennia(Dennia) Kaye Burton, born on July 15, 1948, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. A faithful servant of God, a devoted wife, and a loving mother and friend, she lived a life marked by grace, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she cherished.

For 57 years of marriage—and 62 years together—Dennia shared her life with her beloved husband, James Samuel Burton(Sam). Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and a deep bond that strengthened with every passing year.

She was the proud and nurturing mother of James Christopher Burton (Cyndi), Samuel Lee Burton (Sally), and Jodie Elizabeth Burton, whom she guided with wisdom, tenderness, and steadfast support.

Dennia’s legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren, nieces, and nephews Christa Grace, Makenna Faith, Samuel Lea, Virginia Catherine, and Anne Burton Russell, as well as Kristen Rardin (Matthew), Mason (Christopher), Dakota, and Bailey (Brooke). Each of them carries forward the warmth, kindness, and joy she instilled in her family.

Dennia is also survived by her sister, Tracey Crowder Walton (Brent), with whom she shared many cherished memories.

She is predeceased by her parents, Irye Lee and Nellie Emerson Crowder and brother, Sherman Hammock.

Dennia graduated Chatham High School in Chatham, Virginia. She received her Associates Degree from Roanoke College while her husband was attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Daughter of Irye Lee Crowder and Nellie Emerson Crowder, Dennia grew up on the tobacco farm where she worked throughout her early years as a wife and mother. Dennia worked for Danville Urology Clinic, RJ Baldwin Insurance Agency, and Associates in Mental Health Services (AIMS)

Dennia had a servant’s heart. She spent years volunteering for DOVES, Inc. (Domestic Violence and Emergency Services, Inc.) and volunteering at both Hopewell Methodist Church and Shermont Baptist Church. At Shermont Baptist Church, Dennia was a member of the Stitchers Circle, Kitchen Committee, the chair of the Bereavement Committee, and sent cards to college students.

Known for her gentle spirit and generous heart, Dennia had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her presence brought comfort, her laughter brought light, and her faith guided her throughout her life.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
