Brian Andrew Ulmer
Brian Andrew Ulmer, affectionately known as “Mr. B,” was unique from the moment he entered this world on October 25, 1993 in Salem, Virginia until the day he left us on October 3, 2025 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Oxygen deprivation during birth caused cerebral palsy, developmental delays, and seizures. Despite these challenges, Brian exhibited perseverance and joy with a quiet courage and an infectious spirit. In 2016, Brian graduated from Lord Botetourt High School, a milestone that reflected his determination and the love of those who supported him.
Brian had an eccentric way of bringing laughter and light to those around him. We will always remember his sense of humor, love of dinosaurs, deep affection for country music, and bond with animals - especially a not-so-mini potbelly therapy pig named “Hank.”
He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Diane (Ames) and Gregory Ulmer; sisters, Allison Ulmer of Daleville, VA and Eileen Hackney and her husband Daniel of Broadway, NC; brother, Matthew Ulmer of Roanoke, VA; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred Ulmer, Lois (Hindenach) Ulmer, Nancy (Ghere) Ames, and Paul Ames; and Aunt Cheryl.
Thank you to “second mom” Diane Heard RN and her husband Darrell, Mona Sams of Creative Therapy Care, and Cassie Smith of Anderson Music Therapy for giving many hours of happiness to Brian.
While those who love Brian are heartbroken by his passing, they find peace in the vision of him finally free – walking, talking, laughing – without disease or pain.
