Brian "Speedy" Jay Matherly

Brian Jay Matherly, age 61, of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at his residence.

Brian, known as “Speedy”, was born on June 3, 1964, to the late Barbara Jo Moss Matherly and Jerry Waller Matherly.

Brian had recently retired and spent his working years with Duffie Graphics, Jarrett Welding, and Hardy Petroleum.

He was a skilled craftsman, handyman, and leather artisan. He loved nature, being outdoors and on the 4-wheeler, fishing, pitching horseshoes and cornhole, attending and watching Nascar, and was a big music fan.

Brian is survived by his sister, Angie Matherly; nephews, Coby Rafe Dellis and Joshua Keith Walker; and great-nephew, Liam Walker. He is also survived by his closest friends, Pete Wray, Keith Walker, and Tim Dellis.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sherri Lynn Walker.

A private graveside service will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens at a later date.
