Buren Lewis Shively

Buren Lewis Shively, 84, of Martinsville, VA, passed away on September 13, 2024, at Mulberry Creek Nursing Center. He was born on February 16, 1939, in Ferrum, VA, to the late Alvin and Mattie Shively. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Vivien Shively, his daughter, Vivian Handy, and seven brothers: Popeye, Billy, Tommy, Joe, Broadus, Naaman, and A.J. Shively.

He is survived by his son, Lane Shively; two sisters, Frances Maxey and Christine Woods; two brothers, Jeff and Jessie Shively; and his granddaughter, Dana Lovette.

Lewis Shively worked for Bassett Furniture Industries for 41 years. He was an avid runner and cyclist who enjoyed watching baseball and NASCAR.

A celebration of life will be held at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family will also receive friends at the home of his son, Lane Shively, at 304 Greyson Street, Martinsville, VA.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at Mulberry Creek, Dr. Mark Mahoney, Elizabeth Green, RN, and Betty Eanes for their dedicated care and support during Dad’s final days.
