Calvin C. Sweeney

Calvin C. Sweeney, 89, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 17, 2023. He was preceded by his parents, James "Charlie" and Annie Laura Sweeney; daughter, Tammy Marie Fisher; brothers, James, Randolph, and Roy Sweeney; sisters, Ruby Williamson and Viola Jenkins.

Mr. Sweeney retired from the radio department of the City of Roanoke after many years of service. He was a longtime member of East Gate Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Sweeney proudly served his country in the U S Navy.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Bernice Songer Sweeney; sons, Roger Sweeney (Donetta), Gregory Sweeney (Julie); son-in-law John Lester Fisher; grandchildren, Michael Fisher (Rich Minor), Matthew Fisher (Bryan Miller), Steven Fisher, Joshua Sweeney, Zachary Sweeney (Kaley), Sara Sweeney Bear (Zachary); six great grandchildren.

The family would like to offer a very special thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice and the staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center for the many acts of kindness provided for Mr. Sweeney.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to East Gate Church of the Nazarene 2002 East Gate Avenue Roanoke, VA 24012.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 at East Gate Church of the Nazarene with Pastors George Stevenson and Shannon Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707
