Carl Ray Shelton
Mr. Carl Ray Shelton, 74, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Shelton was born December 11, 1949, in Surry County, one of four sons born to the late Carl W. and Laura Durham Shelton. Carl grew up in the Francisco community and graduated from North Stokes High School. He found a lifelong passion in locksmithing, dedicating over 40 years to providing expert services to the community. His reputation as a reliable and trustworthy professional made him a pillar in the industry, and his commitment to helping others never wavered. Whether unlocking a car door for a stranded motorist or securing the safety of a family home, Carl took pride in knowing his work gave people peace of mind. In addition to his professional achievements, Carl was an avid golfer who could often be found on the greens, enjoying the challenge of the game and the camaraderie of friends. His love of the game was only rivaled by his enthusiasm for trading cards. Over the years, Carl built an impressive collection and relished in the thrill of finding the perfect vehicle, always willing to share stories and advice with fellow enthusiasts. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Jimmy Upchurch of Pilot Mountain; two granddaughters, McKenzie Jordan Upchurch and Madison Olivia Upchurch, both of Pilot Mountain; a great-granddaughter, Adalyn Gray Covington of Pilot Mountain; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelly and Hazel Shelton of King, Marcus and Mary Shelton of Ararat, and Kim and Gail Shelton of Mount Airy. No formal visitation or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
