Carl Richard Smith

Carl Richard Smith, 86, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his residence. He was born on July 7, 1938, in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, to the late Nevil Smith and Forthia Norris Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, his wife, Betty Lou Smith; one son, Calvin Smith; a stepdaughter, Kim Farmer; and a sister, Etta Smith.

Carl was a devoted member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Collinsville, deeply committed to his faith. He took pleasure in fishing, gardening, watching Andy Griffith reruns and westerns, relaxing on the front porch, one of his favorite places were the mountains; and cherishing moments with loved ones.

Carl is survived by one son, Neal Smith; two daughters, Elesha Light and Jeanette Deutschmann; 7 grandchildren; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; five brothers, Paul Smith, Nevil Smith, Dennis Smith, J.D. Smith, and Malcom Smith; one sister, Fairy Townson; and a host of other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church, with Pastor Jason Alverson, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial take place immediately after the service at Roselawn Burial Park. The Pallbearers are: Daniel Farmer, Kenneth Edwards, Neal Edwards, David Hodges, Tony Lawson, and Calvin Osbourne; Honorary Pallbearers are: James Townsend, Benji Roy Boardwine and Walter Glen Light, Jr.
