Carla D. Dewberry

Mrs. Carla D. Dewberry, 48, of Chatham, VA, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Chatham on Thursday, June 27, 2024. She was born on September 23, 1975 in Danville, VA, to the late Millard David Dowdy and Carolyn Crowder Dowdy. Carla was a loving wife, mother, friend, aunt, and cousin. She loved being there for others in her life, especially when it came to taking care of her parents and children. Her consideration for putting others first showed her loving heart.

While growing up, she graduated from George Washington High School. She enjoyed the sport of karate, and spending time with her family. On October 9, 1993, she married the love of her life, Alton E. Dewberry Jr., who she is survived by, and was married to for 30 years. Carla loved to go to Smith Mountain Lake with her husband, going camping, reading books by John Grisham, and spending time with her children who she was so proud of. Carla worked for Sovah Health - Danville as a Patient Access Coordinator where she dedicated 17 years. She was grateful to provide meaningful care to patients and to work alongside her wonderful co-workers. God served as the leading foundation in her life, as she was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Alton E. Dewberry Jr. of Chatham, VA, children; Hannah M. Moser and her husband, Matthew Moser of Dry Fork, VA, and Katelyn Dewberry of Orange, CA; brother, Bryan Dowdy of Danville, VA, and his wife, Rhonda Dowdy; nephews, William and Noah Dowdy of Murrells Inlet, SC; aunt Omie Hartness and her husband, John Hartness of Dunn, NC; cousins; JoAnthony Hartness of Dunn, NC, John (JD) Hartness of Danville, VA, Machelle Mitchell Myers and her husband Sam Myers, and their daughter Lauren Myers of Altavista, VA, and a host of additional aunts, cousins, and close friends. The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Home in Chatham, VA on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 512 Tightsqueeze Rd., Chatham, VA. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at Norris Funeral Home in Chatham, VA. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family would like to give a special thank you to the EMS and first responders for their services.
