Carol Bateman
Carol Moore Bateman, 89, of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025. Born on July 19, 1936, in Roanoke, Virginia, Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who touched many lives with her warmth, kindness and unwavering faith.
A proud graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Carol went on to work as a clerk for General Electric before dedicating her life to her family. She married her high school sweetheart, George Bateman, and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Carol was a lifelong and faithful member of College Lutheran Church in Salem and a devoted 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her deep sense of community and service was evident in all that she did.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Mary Catherine Alcoke (Tom Alcoke) and George O. "Trey" Bateman III (Laura Bateman); two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Carol found great joy in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, always ready with a warm hug and a homemade treat.
Known for her delicious cakes and love of cooking for her family, Carol created a home filled with comfort and love. She especially cherished her close relationships with her longtime neighbors.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va., with a reception to follow at College Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice in Roanoke, Va., in honor of Carol’s compassionate spirit and the care they provided.
Carol will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to inspire all who knew her.
