On Sunday, February 17, 2019, Carol Gemmell, of Los Alamitos, CA loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 68.
Carol was born on May 26, 1950 in Manhattan, NY to Norman and Aileen (Chapman) Coker. She received her textiles degree from Whitter College in 1972 and went on to be a buyer for JC Penny’s. After she went on to work facilities management at McDonald Douglas and Boeing. February 22, 1975 she wed Thomas James Gemmell. They raised one son, Michael, and later on adopter another, Brandon.
Carol loved camping and adventure. Earlier in life with her husband Tom, later with the Boy Scouts and Michael, and through her last years with her family friends, the Deans. She was an avid scrap booker and card party attendee, she has left us with many wonderful memories.
Carol was a steady force of love and wisdom in many young lives. No matter the valleys of life we were going through, she was always there loving and supporting us, helping us climb to the top of life’s mountains.
She was also very active in the church, and involved in charitable works with her women’s group, PEO, and with local organization, We Care.
Carol was proceeded in death by her father Norm, and mother Aileen, as well as her Husband Tom. She is survived by her sons, Michael and Brandon, her brother John and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in California was held on Sunday, April 7th, 2019 at Good Shepard Presbyterian Church.
A graveside service will be held in Pulaski, Virginia on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery at Noon with Rev. Melissa McNare-King officiating. Flower donations can be sent to Stevens Funeral Home, 815 Randolph Ave. Pulaski, VA 24301. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30am at the funeral home.
