Carolyn R. Bowles

Beatrice “Carolyn” Bowles, 79, of Patrick Springs, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital, in Mount Airy, North Carolina. She was born on September 16, 1944, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Marshall Edwin Roop and Georgie Hazel Gilley Roop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Roop and David Roop; and a very special aunt, Ollie Roop.

Carolyn worked in the sewing department at Bassett Walker for 30 years. She was a member of, and faithfully attended, Salem Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends.

Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Karen Bowles Barley (David); a son, Ronnie Bowles; four grandchildren, Matthew Barley (Kayla), Carrie Paige Bowles (Dyllan), Emily Faith Barley (Shawn), and Weston Hayes Keffer; two great grandchildren, Roy James Barley, and Peyton Sawyer Paige; one sister, Frances Jean Ramey (David); and one brother, Stanley Marshall Roop. In addition to her granddaughter Emily, Carolyn had another special caregiver, Vickie Clanton Smith. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Crystal Keffer, Mittie Walton, Judy Thomas, and Troy Bowles for their unwavering support for Carolyn.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 1:00 P.M, at Roop Ferris Family Cemetery, with Pastor John Franklin officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. A burial will take place immediately after at Roop Ferris Family Cemetery. The family will have visitors at the home of David and Karen Barley, at 6343 Abram Penn Highway, Patrick Springs, Virginia 24133, on days leading up to the service.
